Exploring the Dreamscape of Matthew Mercer

Mercer Museum and Fronthill CastleMercer Museum Digital Strategic Planning

Throughout the early 20th Century, collector Henry Mercer amassed a vast array of pre-industrial artifacts to be displayed in his castle-inspired estate. Today, the extensive collection sprawls across every inch of the multi-story Central Court. Often displayed without context, these artifacts are intriguing but obscure to visitors unfamiliar with the many tools that used to be the backbone of American society. The Mercer approached Night Kitchen Interactive to dream of experiences that provide context, clarity and interpretation for some of the most popular artifacts.

We envisioned a gamified augmented reality experience to entice visitors to explore the Court and gain a greater appreciation for the artifacts on display. Through the lens of a mobile device, visitors will be able to collect objects, make connections to regional industries and character-driven histories, and watch them come to life as 3D animations. The resulting Creative Brief outlines next steps for implementation in the upcoming project phase.
